• How do you like to spend your free time?
I was thinking to write something else but I liked the suggestions of the site. So … I like to paint, I like to go to swim even in a swimming pool. I like the nature, and what ever has to do with the spending time in such an environment. I like specially environments with water like lakes, sea, rivers etc. I do bike and I like to walk, that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to spend some time in a good restaurant or in a theater or in a cinema or having friendly good company, of course especially the last one is giving sense to everything above. I am coming from Greece. Greece is a nice country with beautiful landscapes on the mountains and next to the sea. Usually in Greece I was working in hi schools, or older ages or students in Universities. I worked as well with adults. I like to learn, even now before 5 years I finished my master on teaching chemistry and new educational technologies. My BA was on Physics and teaching. For me teaching is learning ways of communication with the other people and discovering the nature inside of me and us.
• What was unique about how your parents raised you?
My parents gave me the opportunity to appreciate what I have and to be happy with that. They, including my grand parents gave me the understanding of being Jew; they helped me to feel the feeling of the spirit of Shabbat, whatever it could mean that. They taught me the way of the appreciation of the moment that I live. They helped me to do the first steps in a lot of activities and attitudes.
• Where is your dream place to live and why?
I would like to live next to the sea. Actually my city in Greece is about 40 minutes far away of the liquid planet of the sea. I don’t know exactly the reason but it is just a feeling.
• If you were stranded on an island, list 3 items and 3 people that you would absolutely not want to be without.
Trying to answer the question with the island I could say that I never could think something like this.
Actually I would like to have good company to discuss and talk some wise things and of course I would like to have some company to spend some more privet time there. I would like the island to have trees with tasty fruits and nice beaches. I would like to play roles and theatrical games in order to have some fun with the people who would be there. I would like to feel at least familiar with the people there looking each other in the eyes and feeling good for each other.
I would like to be able to help and to be helped from the others as well.
Did I write a lot about it?
• In what way do you feel you would like to improve the world (Tikkun Olam)? How do you plan to do it or what have you already done?
I am a teacher of physics and chemistry. Now here in USA I teach math. My main purpose is to leave the pupils to understand what is behind the subject that we are learning. Because indeed behind everything there is something else, more deep, more true, more useful. First I try to imagine it; I try to see if it works. I live it and then I share it with my students. It is something wonderful. You are taking nice feedback. By this way I try to transform the dried surface of the knowledge that it is written on a page of a book into something which is alive and it is inside of all of us always, it was and it will be and it is waiting from us to discover it. My role has a privilege and I enjoy it. This is what I am sharing with my students and by this way a spark of understanding is growing inside of us, a spark of peace and wisdom is lighting our small world, this is what I do and I think that a lot of other teachers do it as well; even it is not obvious always. This small spark of being like this I think that it is a way of changing my own world and I hope the world of my students as well.
• What good deeds do you do regularly? (eg. help someone elderly/disabled, do volunteer work, provide emotional support for your friends, raise charity, etc.)
I try to keep the balance where ever I am. I try to realize if I could be useful somewhere and if the answer is yes I try to do my best helping peace to exist. If it is not possible I pray for help if it is possible. Because whatever I cannot do I feel that He-She may do. I hope that I didn’t write too much.
